Fog City News closed on December 31st, 2021.

Dear Friends,

It may sound corny, but it was an honor for me to open a storefront business on historic Market Street in 1999. I gave my business the name Fog City News as a tribute to San Francisco. And I felt it was my duty to represent this city to visitors as best as I could by offering a welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and the very best products.

And then, as the years went by, to not just survive, but for the store to become one of the foremost purveyors of artisan chocolate in the country (while operating an international newsstand?!), to win local readers poll awards, to perhaps make downtown San Francisco a little bit friendlier of a place, but, most importantly, to have gained such a loyal clientele — well, I just don’t know what else there is to accomplish.

Is this another story of the pandemic forcing a business to close? Nope — everything is fine, my health is fine, and I’m on good terms with the landlord. I have nothing but gratitude for these last 22 years. There are so many entrepreneurs who are forced to close their businesses, but I accomplished everything that I set out to do with Fog City News (and some things I had no idea I was setting out to do!) And now I’m ready for a new chapter. I feel lucky to be riding off into the sunset on my own terms.

2023 Update: I am suspending my e-mail newsletters for the time being, but I am always happy to hear from customers, friends, and colleagues (my business e-mail address remains the same). There WILL be announcements in the future, but the timeline for those is presently unclear. For all other inquiries, I can be reached at: Post Office Box 641672, San Francisco, CA, 94164.

On behalf of my staff, thanks for all the memories!
